Sustainability is integrated into the curriculum in all year levels. Worm farms have been set up to fertilize the garden patches. Seasonal vegetables are grown by the year 5 students and are then used in cooking. Year 3 made broccoli and silver beet stir fry from the winter garden.
Doncaster Gardens is committed to reducing the waste that goes into landfill. Rubbish is sorted into 4 bins. The rubbish is divided into soft plastics, recyclables, compostables and landfill. We are doing our best to reduce, recycle and reuse.
Doncaster Gardens has now achieved 4 stars in the Resource Smart Schools Program. We have completed the Core module, Energy module, Water module and Waste module. We have nearly completed the Biodiversity module and we are close to achieving 5 stars. For more information on the program, please follow the link https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/schools
