 Vic Student 6-7 Placement Guide 

Our online program allows parents of Year 6 students to apply online to neighboring Victorian government secondary schools for Year 7 in 2026.  

It is important to note that the placement policy is followed by all government schools. You can view the placement policy. 

The online system will allow parents/carers to complete an online enrolment application for up to three secondary schools. This ensures that you are providing up to date, accurate information to the schools you are applying for and removes the opportunity for transcription errors. As it is online, an application can be completed on laptops, PC’s and mobile phones. 

The system will also allow you to provide (labelled) supporting documentation: 

  • Name and Upload at least 100 Points of Proof of Address. This is the permanent residential address of the student.  
  • Student Identification (Australian Birth Certificate or Passport and Visa/Citizenship Certificate) 

The parent/carer information pack is available for download from the Moving from primary to secondary school website from the start of Term 2, 2025. 

  1. use Find my School to locate your local secondary school or preferred school, and read about School zones and Enrolling in school. 
  1. register for or login to VicStudents for the online application form https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/ for your child's primary school by Friday 9 May 2025. All information entered on the VicStudents portal must match the existing information in your parent COMPASS account. (i.e. Parent ‘A’ spelling of name and email address must match Compass) 

Year 7 placement is decided by secondary schools using the Department’s Placement Policy. However, all communication about your child's placement must be with the Year 6 Coordinator or Transition Coordinator at your child's primary school until the placement is confirmed. 

You will receive notification of your child's Year 7 placement offer on Tuesday 1 July 2025. 

All government secondary schools will host a Year 7 Orientation Day (for Year 6 students) on Tuesday 9 December 2025. 

 

Important Dates 

Friday 9 May 2025 – Must register for or login to VicStudents by this date 

Tuesday 1 July 2025 - Year 7 placement offers released 

Tuesday 9 December 2025 - Year 7 Orientation Day (for Year 6 students)
